Joey Logano can now breathe a little easier. The Connecticut native earned his fourth career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) win last weekend at Texas Motor Speedway, the first of the 2014 season for the 23-year-old. With the victory, Logano became the seventh different winner this season and locks himself into the Chase for the Sprint Cup barring more than 16 different winners before the start of the Chase. By finishing fourth last weekend at Martinsville Speedway, Middletown’s Joey Logano reached another milestone in his brief NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) career. Logano’s third fourth-place finish in 2014 represented his 30th-career top-five result. Even more impressive, nearly half of those top-five finishes (14 of the 30) have come since Logano began competing for Team Penske just over a year ago. Logano earned 16 top fives in 147 races with Joe Gibbs Racing. He has already earned 14 top fives in just 42 races with Team Penske. Continue reading

Joey Logano and the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford qualified sixth for Sunday’s Quicken Loans 400 at Michigan International Speedway. As the race began, Logano quickly moved inside the top five in the running order. It was a position that he would become familiar with as Logano ran among the top-five competitors for most of the race and only briefly fell out of the top 10 for a handful of laps during the 200-lap event.

The Shell-Pennzoil Ford was fast and captured the race lead for the first time on lap 26. Logano checked out from the field and led until a round of pit stops began on lap 42. Fighting a tight-handling condition when running alone – and a loose condition when in traffic – crew chief Todd Gordon and his team were challenged while making adjustments to the car throughout the race. Middletown’s Joey Logano enters this weekend’s Quicken Loans 400 at Michigan International Speedway riding a hot streak in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Logano finished 10th last weekend at Pocono Raceway driving the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford Fusion, marking his third-straight top-10 finish (fourth if you count the Sprint All-Star race) and his sixth top 10 in his last 10 races. Logano moved up two spots in the point standings to 16th after Pocono. He’s now just 26 points out of the Chase. Continue reading
